It represents the first serious attempt to make use of exclusively local contributions in literature as subject matter for classroom instruction in secondary schools. After a year's trial of the first edition put out in 1927, a revised edition has been prepared with a view to incorporating additional materials not included in the first edition and with a view further to improving the materials already included. --From the foreword
