This historical event which were a culmination of sacrifice, martyrdom, rallies, etc., symbolizes four periods: the awakening, election, the revolution, the fall of MalacaPang and the triumph N2 - The four-day People's Revolution in February, 1986 was an unexpected turn of events which hastened and made possible the victory in the people's fight for Freedom and Democracy. Those four days, however, were a culmination of years of sacrifice, martyrdom, rallies and demonstrations. The awakening boldly surfaced during the period of the so-called "first-quarter storm". Reforms and the people's aspiration cold have been realized after the restless years of the late 60's and early 70's. However, those possible changes were nipped-in-the-bud by the declaration of Martial Law and by the perpetuation of the infamous Conjugal Dictatorship. Fourteen years of moral degeneration, corruption, injustices and repression did not cow the spirit of the oppressed Filipino people. The near-decimated number of opposition leaders, heroes all, kept the fire burning. Many cause-oriented groups, harassed and suppressed, prodded on with a dim flickering light. The death of Ninoy Aquino, who had been the people's rallying point all through those years, resurrected a brave re-awakening of the fight for injustice, truth, freedom and true democracy. The weakening dictatorial regime, made insecure by continuous demonstration and confetti showers, fell into another Providential blunder by calling for a Presidential Snap Election. Just as Providential on the other hand, Cory Aquino, with the now famous "million signature" endorsement by the people, took up the cudgels as the Filipino People's candidate. The rest is now history, which this book tells in glimpses by photos taken during those eventful years. I congratulate these young men, CAPM Volunteers, behind Omega News Service, who have journeyed this path to victory with us. --From the introduction ER -
