He was recently visiting professor of literature and cultural studies at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, a fellow of the center for the Humanities, Wesleyan University, and Fulbright professor of American Studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. He was previously visiting professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Trento, Italy, and at the Graduate School of Tamkang University, Taiwan. San Juan received his graduate degrees in English & Comparative Literature from Harvard University and taught at various universities in the Philippines and the U.S. He received a Centennial Award for Literature from the Cultural Center of the Philippines. His works include Racism and Cultural Studies, Working though the contradictions: From Cultural Theory to Critical Practice, Subversions of Desire, History and Form and Alay sa Paglikha ng Bukang-Liwayway.
