Various authors discuss three major areas: the psychology of Filipino folk medicine, the psychology of religious experience in popular religious practices, and the psychology of leadership in locally founded sects, Western observers usually look down on the practices of the arbularyo or the local folk medicine practitioner, the fanatic devotion of the Quiapo Black Nazarene devotees, the leadership style of the Lapiang Malaya and other local sects.
