As scientist, clinician and researcher, she runs a very active private practice and has pioneered in Child-Family Therapy and Group Play Therapy for children. She has also been involved with UNICEF, ICCB, ILO and DSWD, doing research, training, and intervention programs for abused children, streetchildren, children in poverty, prostitution, disaster, etc. here and abroad.       She was awarded Outstanding Psychologist by the PAP in 1988 and Outstanding Alumna by the UP College of Social Sciences and Philosophy in 2000. She also received the National Social Scientist Award from the Philippine Social Science Council in 1995 for her "outstanding achievement in Psychology and for translating its scientific principles for the upliftment of children in difficult circumstances."       Dr. Carandang is happily married to neurologist Dr. Brigido L. She now teaches at the University of the Philippines (UP).       A past president of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) and editor of the Philippine Journal of Psychology, Dr. Carandang has written a number of books : Filipino Children Under Stress : Family Dynamics and Therapy
