She was awarded Outstanding Psychologist by the PAP in 1988 and Outstanding Alumna by the UP College of Social Sciences and Philosophy in 2000. She also received the National Social Scientist Award from the Philippine Social Science Council in 1995 for her "outstanding achievement in Psychology and for translating its scientific principles for the upliftment of children in difficult circumstances." Dr. Carandang is happily married to neurologist Dr. Brigido L.
