Includes bibliographical references and index
This book, the first of its kind in the philatelic history, presents historical events and important personalities in the Philippine history through a selection of the postage stamps. The selection ranges from issues dating back to the early 1800's up to the present. The life of the first nationalist and the Philippine National hero Dr. Jose Rizal is told through a selection of over thirty stamps beginning in his birthplace and ending in Luneta Park, then known as Bagumbayan field, the scene of his execution. Also featured in this book are special issues by the National Centennial Commission and the ten issues by the Philippine Postal Corporation celebrating the " Decade of the Philippine Nationalism 1989-1998." The page format used features a blow-up of the stamp for the layman to appreciate and a print of the stamp's actual size for the collectors to mount their stamps on.
