This is a revised version of the biography of Francisco Santiago which appeared in the Dictionary of Philippine Biography, volume II (1970), which is now out of print. It is in response to clamors that the initial study appearing there to be read in a separate volume, since Francisco Santiago was the first Filipino to receive a Doctor of Music degree from an American school of music and he was the first one to make use decidedly of Philippineasian folk songs themes in composing serious musical forms
