This book describes the situation of various places during the nineteenth century as they go through the transitions from the previous state. A religious revival has touched all parts of Europe. The skepticism and rationalism of the preceding period had ended in disillusionment. During this long-drawn-out struggle for freedom, the Brothers refrained on principle from interfering. Their interest however, was restricted to the domain of primary education.
