Summary: This book relates how the Philippine Coast Guard evolved from a simple coast watching system from the early Spanish period and during the 16th up to the 19th century, to the more commercially inclined Bureau of Coast Guard and Transfortation in the early 1900's, to the devolution of various coast guard functions to other government agencies until the 1940's , to its resurrection as a major unit of Philippine Navy in 1967 until 1997, and to its eventual separation from the Department of National Defense/Philippine Navy and its transfer to the Department of Transportation and communications in 1998.
