The book is based on the Modern Filipino Alphabet instituted by the Philippine government in 1987. It consists of 28 letters: 20 letters from native Filipino, and eight letters from the Spanish alphabet. The letters C, F, J, Ñ, Q, V, X, and Z are used only in proper names and nouns, scientific and technical terms, and words native to languages other than Filipino. The descriptions and foodnotes are written in bilingual English and Filipino so that Filipino families abroad may deepen their appreciation of their cultural heritage.
