The island of Cebu has always been an important hub of commerce and art in central Philippines. A gem of an island, it has blithely surmounted disaster- natural, political and economic- and has continued to flourish in our minds. Its cohesiveness in terms of language and regional morale approaches the legendary. This book tells of its heritage of art, along tradition from the many indigenous arts to the visual arts of its many contemporary painters. Most of them share a common training in the studio for the late maestro Martino Abella of Carcar. At the same time, they seek their own style and expression as they interact with Manila artists. Their major contribution has been in the art of landscape and genre in which they have made their presence felt in the entire country.
