The Kalayaan Islands Group (KIG) more popularly known as the "Spratlys" is considered a natural arena for cooperation and conflict among claimant countries surrounding the South China Sea. This book highlights the most recent studies done by Filipino scientists from various marine scientific expeditions to the area. Aside from the very interesting pictures and maps presented in full-color, this book also provides information on the status of fishery, biodiversity, oceanography, meteorology and geology of the area. Former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Dr. Angel C. Alcala wrote the foreword.
