This collection consists of nine stories written before the war and sixteen written since year 1945 when the war was ended. This inevitably brings up the ideas of comparison. And the fact that it was far less difficult for the editors to choose a number of outstanding stories written before 1942 than to choose-and first find-stories written after the war which compare favorably enough with the earlier stories to warrant inclusion in the same volume.
