It is tailored to fit to the syllabus developed according to the needs of different institutions of higher education in the country. The basic goals are: 1.To provide a comprehensive developmental language arts and skills textbook for freshmen college students. It is assumed that students have enough discussion contained in this textbook upon completing the number of learning hours as mandated by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The textbook allows the teacher and the student to work with coordination in every chapter without the need for additional workbook. Also, the student will receive most of his language learning in the classroom under the supervision of a teacher and will be required to answer some of the exercises in his own time; 2.To train the students in understanding the importance of English language learning, speaking with confidence, reading appropriate through the selected articles, and writing effectively-all in order. In this respect, the textbook sets out two important things: to provide learning material which will be suitable for freshman college students and at the same time to be used to train systematically in language learning by providing features for easy learning. 3.To supply the teachers with graded material which will enable them to conduct each lesson with minimum time preparation and to monitor the development of the language learning of students. As many of the exercises found in this book are self-correcting, the teachers will incidentally be relieved of the difficult task of correcting many exercises. In the process, the students gradually develop their communicative skills and competencies and are trained to construct correct and effective sentences in both oral and written forms. --Preface of the book | ||
