520 _aA master of impressionism in the visual arts, she dedicated herself depicting Bohol's rich culture, history and it's natural landscape through her artwork. Born in 1929 to an artistically inclined clan, Hermogena, or Nene as she is more intimately called, got her formal training in the School of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. The great Amorsolo, then Dean, was one of the professors while Joya and Abueva were among her distinguished classmates. Upon her graduation as Cum Laude in 1953, she went home to Bohol, got married and raised a family of 9 children - setting aside her craft in the process. It took more than 30 years before she resumed doing serious painting. She influenced some of her children to follow in her footsteps, becoming artists in their own right. She also established Udlot (new leaf), the longest running Summer Art Clinic for children in Bohol. Now in her 80's, she continues to be a source of inspiration through her art, faith, fortitude, generosity and devotion to family (M. Luspo, 2012).On display are personal collections of Atty. Lucas "Doy" Nunag who started collecting artworks more than 30 years ago when he was still in active law practice in Makati. However, it was only after he retired and came back to Bohol in 2004 that he focused on Boholano traditional and contemporary art. These masterpieces are among the Boholano artworks that are now on display at Amarela, a family-owned boutique beach resort in Panglao, Bohol which showcases the best of Bohol's rich art and cultural heritage.
