520 _aIt was from Crispina Reyes who had arranged the Quirino papers at the Ayala Museum, that I first learned the rich source of information on the Quirino Presidency. This was way back in the early '80s. By chance this summer, I happened to visit Cris and she again brought up the papers and the fact that this year was Quirino's birth centennial and that perhaps, a book could be written using his papers. Somehow, at that point, I felt that it was time for Filipino writers like myself to explore and interpret our own past our own way. This book is a modest result of such an effort.
