520 _aPresents the theory and practice of microwave engineering relevant to its use as a processing tool, starting from the basic concepts of electric and magnetic fields, progressing to wave guide theory and practice, and consideration of applicator design and practice. Includes a chapter on heat flow within a workload, which is fundamental to any volumetric heating process. Two chapters on microwave generators were added. The first is mainly concerned with magnetrons and their performance characteristics, and the second with power conversion from input AC power to high - voltage DC for the bulkpower supply to the magnetron and the auxillary supplies. Covers both the conventional and the new switch-mode power supplies.
