520 _aFilipino women have begun to talk about their personal lives of abuse within their relationships and how they have survived. It is important that their stories are heard and listened to, because in a society that puts premium value on the "sanctity" of the family, the women are hardly believed. Women need to talk about their experiences of abuse, understand why these are happening, and be able to act against these crimes. This is why, KALAKASAN would rather know women who have experienced such pain in their lives as "survivors", than as the more common image of women as "victims". Throughout the book, KALAKASAN take the position that women are survivors, not victims. This book has been written in response to the need for others to learn from women's strength, and from the long process of discovering that there is a way out of violence.
