520 | _aThe idea of writing this textbook was born gradually after 10 years of teaching Aesthetics and Humanities courses to college students. Hence, the book is primarily designed for use in these courses. The aim of the book is to give the student a basis for the understanding of the techniques and the characteristics of good art. In keeping with this aim, the authors have seen fit to include the histories of the various art forms in the beliefs that all art is created within a milieu and that, therefore, the knowledge of art history is necessary as a springboard to the understanding of both the artist and his work. As of the title suggests, INTRODUCTION TO ART APPRECIATION AND AESTHETICS, this book is not intended to cover all aspects of art and of art appreciation. It does not propose to supply the student with all the facts pertinent to the arts. Neither does it presumes to answer all questions that he might ask about them. --Preface of the book | ||
