520 _aThe purpose of this study is to outline the main features of the policies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which have been imposed on the Philippines since the 1960s, and to show how these policies affect the ordinary Filipino. Section I describes the conditions of the Seventeenth Stand-by Agreement. The Agreement is similar to previous ones in that it incorporates standard IMF thinking. The provisions of the Agreement are presently being implemented by the Philippine government (SectionII). While the full effects of these provisions will be felt only in the coming year(s), one can forecast their likely outcomes, based on past experience. --From the introduction
