520 _aThe central tagbanwa people of the Philippines are on the verge of losing their language forever. In the last sixty years, the ravages of war and disease, and the large influx of migrants have drastically altered the sociolinguistic dynamics of their homeland. There is no question theat Central Tagbanwa is an endangered language. If the trend shown in this study continues, the Central Tagbanwa language will become only a sentimental memory to the generation now being born. This book chronicles the language shift that has taken place among the Central Tagbanwa people in northern Palawan in the last half of the twentieth century. It also provides a linguistic description of Central Tagbanwa from data gathered from among the few remaining native speakers of the language. As such, the aim of this book is to preserve the linguistic heritage of the Central Tagbanwa people for generation to come.
