520 _aThe armed conflicts in the Philippines have been on-going for nearly four decades - between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP) and between the AFP and Moro Islamic Liberation Front-Bangsamoro Islamic Auxiliary Force (MILF-BIAF). There has been fixed positional fighting and also mobile guerrilla warfare. Uncounted Lives : Children, Women and Conflict in the Philippines draws from the experiences of villages from eight provinces nationwide : Abra, Mindoro Oriental, Capiz, Leyte, Surigao del Sur, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato and Maguindanao. It looks into how children, women and communities have affected by the conflicts as well as into their capacities, efforts and struggles to overcome adverse situations. The book also begins to look deeper into the phenomenon of "child soldiers" and of other children who become involved in the armed conflicts, from the perspective of the children themselves as well as of the communities and the major armed groups involved.
