Summary: This concept-based and learner-centered mathematics book is intended for grade 11 senior high school students. This book aims to help students become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and people who have inner peace. The three main goals of this book are (1) to align the Common Core Standards of K to 12 Curriculum to Mathematics Learning Competencies of the Department of Education, (2) to more effectively leverage the use of technology in the mathematics class, and (3) to instill in students a deep understanding of, and appreciation for mathematics in general. At the end of this book, the students must know how to solve problems involving rational, exponential and logarithmic functions; to solve business-related problems and to apply logic to real-life situations. Business-related topic such as Financial mathematics have grown in importance in recent times and this book is an excellent tool to equip all senior high school with the knowledge needed to operate in a world of growing financial complexity. The effects are everywhere, including the interest earned by a school child in his or her first bank account, the investment earnings of a superannuation fund, the interest rate charged on a credit card or mortgage loan, or rates in the short term money market used by multinational companies. This text is designed to provide readers with a generic approach to appreciate the importance of understanding financial mathematics with respect to a wide range of financial transactions, including annuities, home mortgage and personal loans, bonds, superannuation savings, and the assessment of future investment projects. A variety of interest rates are used in the examples and in the hundreds of exercises available to the student. It is our hope that this book provides the reader with improved understanding of the calculations that underlie most financial transactions. --From the Preface of the Book.
