It is not every day that one gets to translate a masterpiece. One very beautiful, very satisfying assignment I have received is the putting into verse form the Maranao masterpiece: the Darangen. It is one of the most telling proofs of the high proficiency of the Maranao at verse-making. The work being presented is the result of teamwork. book no.8, Kapmabaning or So Kiyaprawa'a Ko Lawanen (The Abduction of Lawanen) is the first book attempted by the Folklore Division of the University Research Center of Mindanao State University to translate into its verse form in English. --Preface of the book.
